THE SYMPOSIUM

The TC101 of the ISSMGE is pleased to announce the 7th International Symposium on Deformation Characteristics of Geomaterials to be held in 2019 in Glasgow. The Symposium is co-organised by the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow and the University of Bristol. Building on the tradition of previous Symposia organised in Sapporo (Japan, 1994), Torino (Italy, 1999), Lyon (France, 2003), Atlanta (USA, 2008), Seoul (Korea, 2011) and Buenos Aires (Argentina, 2015), IS-Glasgow 2019 will bring together researchers and practitioners to explore new directions in geomaterial testing to ensure that the symposium remains one of the most popular and vibrant events within the geotechnical community.

TECHNICAL CORE THEMES

?Advanced laboratory geomaterial testing.
?Application of advanced laboratory testing in research, in situ, and ground modelling.
?Application of advanced testing to practical geotechnical engineering.

PRESENTATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS

?All participants having submitted a paper will be given the chance to present their work orally.
?Special time will be allocated for constructive and lively discussion.
?Proceedings will be published online 몂pen access?
?Papers will be attributed DOI names and will be indexed in main databases.

ENGAGEMENT OF EARLY CAREER RESEARCHERS AND PRACTITIONERS

A key goal of IS-Glasgow 2019 is to engage with the full spectrum of geotechnical specialists, from
early career engineers and researchers to world-leading experts. This aim will be reflected in the
selection of the Theme Lecturers and the organisation of the sessions. We aim to create a legacy of
active engagement at IS-Glasgow 2019 with the next generation of engineers and researchers.

KEYNOTE AND THEME LECTURES

Six plenary sessions will be devoted to the Bishop Lecture and ten Keynote Lectures. A Theme Lecture
will open each of the 18 parallel sessions. Themes will include Novel sensors for laboratory testing,
Advances in particle-scale experimental observation, Novel techniques for field monitoring / testing,
Advances in laboratory testing, Modelling constitutive behaviour with emphasis on 멲ccessible? constitutive modelling, Case studies, and Laboratory test-based design in geotechnical practice.
